Intro
We are collecting tracks for a Signalwave / Broken Transmission / hauntology and adjacent genres compilation, digital/cassettes/minidisc.
The compilation’s theme is about electricity, shortwave radio, exploring their energy, connection, and the unseen frequencies that bind them.
January 16 update: This compilation, inspired in part by David Lynch’s fascination with electricity, will now serve as a tribute to him and his remarkable work following his passing today. https://welcometotwinpeaks.com/lynch/david-lynch-electricity/

concept:
The compilation delves into the captivating intersection of electricity and shortwave radio, exploring their raw energy and the mysterious frequencies they carry. At its core, it celebrates the invisible waves that connect worlds, both known and unknown. Shortwave radio, with its ability to traverse vast distances, becomes a symbol of communication beyond borders—earthly and extraterrestrial. The project evokes the allure of listening to faint signals from the cosmos, imagining the possibility of messages from distant civilizations.
It also touches other adjacent domains, like the enigmatic world of number stations—cryptic broadcasts of coded messages, rumored to be used for espionage, that add an element of intrigue and shadow to the theme. The constant hum of static, the sudden bursts of morse code, and the unpredictable nature of shortwave transmissions mirror the chaotic beauty of electricity itself. Together, they form a narrative of energy, mystery, and the human drive to both send and decipher signals across the void. You can imagine anything else in the relation, this was only an example.
The project also pays homage to the poetic unpredictability of shortwave listening. The thrill of scanning frequencies and stumbling upon forgotten voices, distant music, or weather reports from a far-off land evokes a sense of discovery. It mirrors the chaotic, ever-shifting nature of electricity itself—an untamed force harnessed into order yet always hinting at its primal power.
Through this theme, the compilation becomes more than an exploration of technology; it’s a reflection on human curiosity, the urge to communicate, and the unseen forces—both natural and artificial—that shape our world. The crackle of static, the hum of electricity, the fragmented sounds of the ether—all converge to create a sonic experience that is as haunting as it is electrifying and produce the feeling of ‘ghostified’ music.

genre: Broken Transmission, Signalwave, hauntology, melancholic, emotional, obscure, vibrant fragile, or raw and mechanical sound collage, mostly soft, samples, found sounds from old VHS, tape or processed, shortwave radio, or more abstract space signal (non-exhaustive list, let your creativity explore other domains and sources)

Keep you track short (4-5 minutes is still ok, but not 35 minutes)
You can submit multiple tracks if you like so we can keep the one which matches the best, but please don’t submit a full album.
Format the file name as follows:
your alias – song title.wav (flac, mp3, aif, ra, xm, mod…)
so that it is easy and fast for us to know who the artist is and to mention her/him in the tracklist.
You can submit tracks, info pictures withing a zip file, this would be the easiest way to track who is who and how to credit the artist (it’s a good idea let your email somewhere in can we need to contact you).
You can drop us a message afterward if you want to add more information or ask any question using our Bandcamp Contact form : https://underwater-computing.bandcamp.com/

DEADLINE : end of October 2025
The compilation will have a maximum duration of 42 minutes, which means we may need to make difficult choices and exclude some tracks if we receive too many submissions. Please don’t feel disappointed or upset if your track isn’t selected—this doesn’t reflect on its quality. There will be more opportunities in the future, and your work may simply not fit the specific mood or overall coherence we’re aiming for with this project (which can be hard to anticipate from the outside).
Thank you for understanding and for contributing your creativity! Together, we’re crafting an extraordinary signalwave album that will push the genre’s boundaries and take it to new heights.
